The term severe-to-profound hearing loss refers to a disability that causes people only to hear very loud speech or sounds.

People who have severe hearing loss are unable to hear speech at conversational levels, and people affected by profound hearing loss can only perceive sounds as vibrations. The degree of hearing always varies depending on the different pitches of each sound; however, the best hearing is mostly in low pitches.
